Vi. Methodology of the United Nations Population Estimates and Projections
ثبت نشده
چکیده
First, based on new empirical evidence and informed by recent findings in demography, sociology, political sciences and economics, specific guidelines about dominant future trends of fertility, mortality and migration are formulated. These guidelines ensure consistency between and comparability of the estimated and projected demographic trends for the world’s countries. These guidelines are flexible and allow for the incorporation of country-specific trends that deviate from assumed general trends and they take into account a countries current position in the demographic transition from high to low fertility and mortality. Specific guidelines for fertility, mortality and migration are described in the main body of this chapter.

Data and Methods for the Production of National Population Estimates: An Overview and Analysis of Available Metadata
Thomas Spoorenberg Translated by: Elham Fathi Statistical Center of Iran Abstract. Official population estimates can be produced using a variety of data sources and methods. These range from the direct extraction of information from continuously updated population registers to procedures for updating the status of a population enumerated previously in a periodic census. Additional sources and ...
متن کاملJoint Probabilistic Projection of Female and Male Life Expectancy.
BACKGROUND The United Nations (UN) produces population projections for all countries every two years. These are used by international organizations, governments, the private sector and researchers for policy planning, for monitoring development goals, as inputs to economic and environmental models, and for social and health research. The UN is considering producing fully probabilistic populatio...
متن کاملProbabilistic projections of the total fertility rate for all countries.
We describe a Bayesian projection model to produce country-specific projections of the total fertility rate (TFR) for all countries. The model decomposes the evolution of TFR into three phases: pre-transition high fertility, the fertility transition, and post-transition low fertility. The model for the fertility decline builds on the United Nations Population Division's current deterministic pr...

Estimating global migration flow tables using place of birth data
BACKGROUND International migration flow data often lack adequate measurements of volume, direction and completeness. These pitfalls limit empirical comparative studies of migration and cross national population projections to use net migration measures or inadequate data. OBJECTIVE This paper aims to address these issues at a global level, presenting estimates of bilateral flow tables between 1...
